SNORELY← Guide

What can you actually do at home?

Every home remedy runs on the same logic: keep the airway a little more open and stop the tissue from going completely slack. None of them work for everyone, which is why changing one thing at a time and measuring the result beats working through a checklist in a single week.

Start with the two biggest levers

Sleeping on your back lets the tongue fall backwards, and alcohol relaxes throat muscles more than sleep alone does. Trying side sleeping, and cutting alcohol in the three hours before bed, are the two highest-yield changes available at home. Test them on separate nights rather than both at once, or you will never know which one did the work.

Keep the nose open

If your nose is blocked you breathe through your mouth, and an open mouth is a classic setup for snoring. A cool room that is not bone dry, steam from an evening shower, washing bedding often during allergy season and trying a nasal strip all work in this direction. Long-standing blockage on one side is not a job for home fixes — see an ENT doctor.

Measure the change or you are guessing

Because snoring fluctuates on its own, the feeling that last night was better is unreliable. Keep a change in place for three or four nights, record, and compare averages. Snorely keeps every night's Snore Score and clips, so you can see whether the new pillow really did anything.

Frequently asked questions

I can't stop rolling onto my back — any tricks?

The classic fix is a pocket sewn onto the back of your pyjamas with a tennis ball in it. A body pillow you hug also makes it harder to roll over.

Will losing weight stop the snoring?

Extra weight around the neck is one of the factors that feed snoring, and losing some reduces it for many people. It is not a guarantee, and the effect varies a lot between individuals.

Is mouth taping safe?

Some internet trends carry real risk, especially with a blocked nose or undiagnosed sleep apnoea. Ask your doctor before trying anything that restricts breathing.

This page is for information only and is not medical advice. If your snoring is loud and constant, if anyone has seen you stop breathing, or if you are sleepy during the day, talk to a doctor.
