SNORELY← Guide

Why Did My Overnight Recording Stop?

Your overnight recording may have stopped because the phone locked, you switched apps, microphone access was interrupted, or a scheduled stop time arrived. Snorely needs to stay open on screen while listening; its own dark screen lets you leave it open without the bright recording display.

Save any interrupted session first

Reopen Snorely before starting another night. If the app offers ‘Your last night was interrupted,’ choose ‘Save the night’ to keep the available portion. Recovery uses the last saved session information, so it cannot restore sounds from hours when the app was no longer listening. The recovered report carries a note that later hours are missing. If no recovery prompt appears, do not assume the missing session can be retrieved. Avoid clearing app storage or reinstalling while you are trying to preserve a night. First check History for a report that may already have been saved.

A dark Snorely screen is different from a locked phone

With ‘Dark screen at night’ enabled in Settings, Snorely covers its recording display after 25 seconds. Tap to bring the display back. That dark view is part of the app; pressing the phone’s power button to lock it is a different action. Leave Snorely open and let its own dark view appear. The app tries to keep the screen awake, but this does not make recording with the phone locked reliable. If the problem began immediately after you pressed the power button, try a daytime session with Snorely left open before changing battery settings.

Switching apps can interrupt sound without closing the session

Going to the Home screen or opening another app moves Snorely out of view. Android restricts microphone capture for background apps, and another app using the microphone can also take priority. A voice call, video recording, or voice message is therefore a useful clue when locating an interruption. Finish other phone tasks before starting the night. If you need to take a call, take it, then return to Snorely and check whether its sound display responds. Returning to the recording screen does not recover audio that was missed while you were away.

Check battery limits separately

Battery restrictions are another possible cause, especially if the problem appears later rather than immediately after leaving the app. For a comparison session, keep the phone plugged in and turn off its battery-saving mode. On Pixel phones, Battery Saver limits background activity, while Extreme Battery Saver pauses most apps. You can review an app’s battery settings under Settings, Apps, Snorely, App battery usage on Pixel; other phones use different menus. Changing a battery setting does not give Snorely reliable recording with the screen locked. Keep the app open during the test, and change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped.

Check both microphone permission and microphone access

If Snorely cannot start listening, open Android Settings, then Apps, Snorely, Permissions, Microphone, and allow microphone use while using the app. Android’s ‘All the time’ permission option applies to location, so do not look for that option for the microphone. Also check the phone’s privacy controls: device-wide Microphone access can block recording even when an individual app has permission. Close other apps that are actively recording sound, return to Snorely, and start a fresh session. Menu names can vary by phone.

Rule out a scheduled stop or delayed start

Open ‘Start tonight’ and check ‘Stop automatically.’ A night that ends around the selected time may have finished as scheduled. Turn that setting off for a troubleshooting session, or choose the time you actually intend to finish. Also check ‘Start listening after’: Snorely offers Off, 10, 20, or 30 minutes. During that waiting period, the screen says listening will start later, and snore detection has not begun. This can explain a missing beginning, but it does not explain missing hours in the middle of an otherwise active night.

Do not rely on ‘Listening’ or a zero score alone

Snorely can still show ‘Listening’ after its microphone stream has ended. The elapsed timer is not proof that sound is arriving. Reports can show interruption notes and marked gaps, but the absence of a warning does not guarantee complete coverage. A night with little or no usable listening can also receive a zero score and the label ‘Quiet night.’ If you suspect an interruption, treat that result as incomplete rather than evidence that you did not snore. Check the report’s start and end times, gap notes, and any available clips before comparing it with another night.

Run a short daytime check before another full night

Set the start delay and automatic stop to Off, start listening, and leave Snorely open. Make a normal sound near the phone and watch whether the sound display responds. Let the app’s dark screen appear, tap to return, and check again. This checks whether sound is reaching the app at that moment; an ordinary sound does not have to count as a snore or create a clip. Finish with ‘Hold to finish.’ If a short-session prompt appears, select ‘Keep it’ if you want to retain the test. A successful short check cannot guarantee an uninterrupted night.

If recording still cuts out with Snorely open

If the problem repeats while Snorely stays open, the phone remains powered, and no scheduled stop is set, contact support@hugosoftware.net. Include your phone model, Android version, Snorely version, approximate start and interruption times, and whether you locked the phone, switched apps, or received a call. Mention any recovery message or gap note you saw. You do not need to send private bedroom audio to describe the problem. These details help distinguish a repeatable recording failure from a session that ended as scheduled.

Frequently asked questions

Can Snorely record with my phone locked?

Do not rely on it for recording with the phone locked. Leave Snorely open on screen and use its ‘Dark screen at night’ setting to cover the bright display.

Will allowing background battery use fix it?

It may remove a battery restriction, but it does not change Snorely’s need to remain open. Check whether locking the phone or switching apps caused the interruption before changing battery settings.

Can Snorely recover the whole night after it closes?

It may offer the portion available from its last saved session. Select ‘Save the night’ if that prompt appears. Recovery cannot recreate audio from the missing hours.

Why are there no clips even though the timer ran?

The timer alone does not confirm microphone input. Also check whether ‘Save snore clips’ was enabled in Settings. Snorely saves selected snore moments rather than a continuous audio file of the whole night.

Does Snorely resume automatically after a call?

Do not assume it has resumed. Return to the app and check whether the sound display responds. If it does not, finish and save the available session, then start a new one.

Should I use an interrupted night to judge my snoring?

Treat it as a partial record. Missing sound cannot establish how you sounded during the missing time. Snorely does not diagnose medical conditions; discuss health concerns with a doctor.

This page is for information only and is not medical advice. If your snoring is loud and constant, if anyone has seen you stop breathing, or if you are sleepy during the day, talk to a doctor.

Find out in the morning what happened at night. Snorely listens through the night, catches the snoring, and hands you a Snore Score plus clips of the loudest moments when you wake up. Free, no ads, and nothing leaves your phone.
